Older Than the Oldest House in Silver Spring MD

Since my recent post about the Oldest House in Silver Spring an EVEN OLDER ONE has come on the market for sale. It's the original Kinsman Farmhouse out Colesville Road between 4 corners and Burnt Mills.  It dates back to 1783!, and I thought 1833 was OLD!! It's on almost an acre hidden from the Road in the midst of  newer houses and townhouses. Check out the MLS listing on it, you won't believe the restoration that's been done on this 7 Bedroom, 2 1/2 Bath, 2 Fireplace Historic House or the fact that it is OVER 200 years old and is in the 4 Corners/Northwood Park area of Silver Spring.

Wow!! I think it is so amazing that houses that old exist here in America. I bet you walk through them and can almost feel the history.

Wow! Caught my attention. I was raised near 4 corners (back when it WAS 4 corners) in Woodmoor. My dad built a brick house at 10307 Ridgemoor Dr for about $15,000 in 47 or 48. I heard it sold for $485,000 last year. I went to Pinecrest Elem, Esatern Jr High, Northwood High (sister went to Blair).

Thanks for taking me back!

Thanks for the information! Just out of curiosity: How can one be sure of the house's age? Are there sites on the Internet giving dates for houses in the DC area? (I went to Northwood and grew up in Forest Knolls, not far from the older than the oldest house.) Thanks.

Jerry,

I got the information about the first house (the one in Woodside) from the tax records in our Metropolitan Regional Information Systems or Multiple Listing Service.  If the house"s age is unknown or built before 1800 - the county records will say early 1900's, as in the above house on Kinsman Circle.  The agent listing the house got the 1700's age information from the owners of this particular house - who had th history of the house researched.
