Silver Spring, Md Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks Connection

The song Silver Springs was written by Stevie Nicks.   Legend has it that she got the idea while riding in a limo on the Capitol Beltway after a concert and seeing the sign for the Silver Spring, Maryland Exit.

Die-Hard Silver Springers and native residents will tell you they hate it when anyone makes Silver Spring plural.  That extra S drives a lot of us crazy (especially when a public offical makes this FAUX PAS!) if you listen carefully to the song Stevie never uses the plural or the dreaded extra S in the song.  The only place you'll find that extra S is in the title of the song.

More evidence of this legend that the song came from the beltway sign is the fact that the sign is a "blue green" color mentioned in the song. A lot of other people believe this legend.

I'm headed toward Silver Spring in half an hour, and yes, it is annoying when folks add that extra "S".
